No. If you compile from source, the default frontend (i.e. the toolkit LyX uses for its widgets) is xforms. If you compile --with-frontend=qt (and, on SuSE, --with-qt-dir=/usr/lib/qt3), then LyX uses the qt frontend. It's a different look'n'feel (and a matter of taste).
