dvi viewer

I have compiled and installed lyx 1.3.3.  The first thing I noticed is 
that the view Dvi menu item is unavailable.  I didn't have xdvi 
installed, so I installed it from source, but the menu item is still 
unavailable.  Is there something else that I need or need to do.
I am running Suse 9.0.
