Trick is to check the ' Clip to bounding box' option in lyx. Instruction below..
If there is poblem of bounding box not being recognized by lyx for a ps image, as is often the case with thos generated using openoffice, convert the image to eps using ps2eps available at http://www.ipv6.tm.uka.de/~bless/ps2eps.
