Shhh! Don't yell. :-) In the float, place the cursor in front of the image or table and on the menu select Layout -> Paragraph. Change the alignment from Justified to Center. I asked this question a few weeks ago and learned that while the default behavior in LyX used to be centered figures, that was not in accordance with the LaTeX standard. So, now we do it manually.
