Hi list,

for all who are intersted in this topic i wanted to say what the actual problem was with ghostview. Ronald kindly told me, why I couldn't use ghostview and how to solve the problem (see below). Now at least I know, what was wrong - god, all those preferences lists and entries "hidden" all over the system ... :o) Thanks again for all your help!!!

I installed ghostview using fink - thus it's installed in "/sw/bin/gv". [...] Plus I can start gv manually from the x11-terminal, not from the terminal OSX ships though (error: gv: Unable to open the display).

It's not a LyX problem: the DISPLAY is not set when you're running a GUI application. Add

        <key>DISPLAY</key>
        <string>:0.0</string>

between the <dict> and </dict> in your ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist file, log out and log in again, and you should be fine. You will have to be running the X-server for gv to work.
