Have you all given thought to making this easier?  The way I understand
it, LyX's goal is to make the power of LaTeX more accessible.  I view it
as an almost fatal flaw that simply making new types of documents is so
difficult.  

I'll probably continue to use LyX for articles, slides, and the things
it's good at, but after my recent experiences trying to make it do
anything else, my dreams of deploying it to end users are fading.  It
would quickly become a support nightmare, having to answer calls
whenever a user wants to do something differently.

I still really like LyX.  I think the devs have done a great job, for
what it does.
