How can I remove the toolbar?

Great question... I never use it so it just takes up space. With the Qt-version, I just noticed that I can click on the left-most part of the toolbar and it is minimized - always something. It is always possible to drag the toolbar out of the LyX window.

Does anybody know how you can set these changes permanently? (For instance starting with a minimized toolbar?)

Take a look at ../share/lyx/ui/default.ui

I had tried copying the default.ui to ~/.lyx/ui and removing all the toolbar definitions but that didn't help. gave it another shot removing everything except

Toolbar
End

.. and this sort of works. It removes all the entries in the toolbar but then you still get an empty toolbar. Much rather remove altogether

Also tried to move the Layouts "mini-window" to the menu bar but unfortunately I couldn't get this to work. All these different layouts appear to be accessible via keyboard shortcuts but while I'm learning the basics a list comes in rather handy.

I'll check see if this could easily be replaced by a menu.. something called "Styles" perhaps..? unfortunately I can't think of anything that starts w/ a "P"..
