I'm a new lyx user. Often people get used to odd quirks in software, and get so that they don't notice them anymore, but to a newcomer they pinch and distract. I'll post periodically so that the design team can incorporate this into their 'to be fixed' list. Or in some cases, these may be FAQ candidates.
1. Inconsistent Cut and paste. This one drives me crazy. It may be a xforms issue rather than a lyx issue. Sometimes when I cut and paste either using C-X C-V or mark, middle button between another application and Lyx, I get instead some previous content of the paste buffer. Within Lyx it's almost as if each environment has it's own buffer. That is, I couldn't use cut and past to move stuff from within a nested environment to outside it. Whenever I pasted, I would get whatever I has last pasted in the the outer environment. 2. Different behaviour between Math mode and text mode for treating highlighted text. Suppose I want to specify the 21st of the month, and want the 'st' to be superscripted. In text mode, I highlight the 'st', then go Insert ->Special Character ->Superscript, it puts a superscript box in. I have to retype the 'st'in the box, and erase the 'st' on the main line. In math mode, if I click the appropriate box, then if there is no selected text, I get a new box, but if there is selected text, then it's contents become the superscript. 3. Within math mode transformations are opaque. Several times already I have found myself starting an expression a/(b+c) then decided afterward to rewrite it as a ------- b + c I've yet to find an easy and obvious way to do this.
