I'm working my way through the Lyx tutorial (and user guide.) With regards to footnotes... i read you can highlight normal text and then select the insertfootnoe button to convert it to a foot note.... but it doesn't!! it just inserts a blank foot note where the cursor is. Similaly I cannot convert foot note text back to normal text int he way sugested as the insert foot note button is then dissabled. Whats wrong!
