Where did you put them?

Run this in console

kpsepath bst

and put the .bst file in one the mentioned directories. Then run
texhash (again in console and as a root). The final test that
everything works is to run (say)

kpsewhich geralpha.bst

(it should return the full path of the .bst file).

yeh, i got it to return the full path. so now it finds my style, but still in lyx i get two errors per citation, one saying
"\btxeditionlong{} the control sequence at the end of the top line was never \def'ed. if you have misspelled" and so on
and then one saying "\btxvolumelong{} the control sequence" ...
