1. Enable the "Use AMS" button in the document dialog. 2. Add the following line to the preamble \newcommand{\Tag}[1]{\stepcounter{equation}\tag{\theequation, #1}} 3. In the equation, type \Tag{A3a Note that a reference to the equation will give "1, A3a".
