cross references to inserted latex

i have scripts that produce latex tables.  i would like to insert
these into lyx documents.  i've figured out how to do that, but 
what i can't seem to figure out is how to cross reference these
tables in the lyx document.  the trick in the user manual only seems
to work bewteen multiple lyx documents, but what about when one
is a latex file?
