I think you can upgarding safely to 1.1.6fix4 and still using the same document. I use Redhat 7.2 and the ghostscript package ghostscript-6.51-17.i386.rpm with lyx 1.1.6fix4 and it works fine since I upgraded to this ghostscript version.
