Hi all,
I am trying to generate a CV using the Lyx layout for this, and being
able to PDF it and send it round is seen as a good idea. However,
producing the required files raises a couple of problems: on the one
hand, if I don't use the standard Times, Helvetica et al. (well,
pslatex option), the fonts are quite horrible. I know I can use the
dvips -Ppdf <dvi_file> "trick"; but the problem is that only computer
modern gets translated into a Type 1 font. The other fonts pass on to
the PDF as standard Type 3 fonts.

In fact, generating some extra PDF files from Lyx/Tex files I have
around, it seems that this is a general case, -Ppdf does embed the CM
font, but it doesn't look sharp at all. Variations such as monotype and
so on are also rendered as Type 3.

I presume that I need Type 1 versions of these fonts, and a changemap.
I notice that I have a number of type1 fonts in my
/usr/share/texmf/fonts/type1 directory (Debian GNU/Linux), but I can't
find the sans-serif fonts here.

I have used tex2pdf/lyx2pdf, but they seem to replace the CM fonts
with Times and so on, so I am at a loss of what to do.

OK, so it wasn't a Lyx question after all :-)

Thanks
Jos
