I thought it may come to that, I liked the nice pop-away neatly margin box in the lyx GUI though... Do you think its possible to modify the line in ~/.lyx/ui/default.ui containing:
Item "Marginal Note|M" "marginalnote-insert" to something like: Item "Marginal Note|M" "command-sequence math-mode ; marginalnote-insert ; font-size scriptsize" I tried it, but it doesn't work for me. It does the marginalnote bit, but not the font-size bit!!! As for changing the icon code, I wouldn't know where to start...any ideas?
