Indeed. I have this line in my bind file to get a latex thin space '\,' 
Note that this is all in one line in the file:

\bind "C-S-space" "command-sequence ert-insert ; self-insert \,; escape ; 
word-backward ; inset-toggle ; char-forward ;"
