  One of the most important changes between gs 5.x and 6.0 was the great
improvement in the pdf translater. I had had all sorts of problems with
ps2pdf before version 6.0. The difference is easily visible and significant.

  Build from source. That's what I did in my RH 6.2 network. It works just
fine. I don't know why Red Hat is so far behind the gs leading edge when the
distribution almost falls off the leading edge on other packages.
