Yes, you are correct on both counts... however, I have seen some legal
and military documents which use such numbering. :(
Technical notes, for instance, in schools of the U.S. Navy, tended to
just add ".x" every time they wanted to nest another level of detail,
even if it meant having six numbers dotted together in a section
heading. Hm, what would I call that in LyX? "Sub-sub-sub-sub..." ugh,
never mind!
