  Thank you for responding. I want to make sure that I understand. After
sending my message, I checked for draftcopy.sty and found that the build
installed a copy for me:

/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/misc/draftcopy.sty

> run make from within this new directory and than texhash.

  So, if I understand correctly, I can build the package anywhere as long as
I put the final copy of the .sty file in (for my system)
/usr/share/texmf/tex/lates/misc/. Then I need to run texhash. Do I have this
correct?

  I found several other packages on CTAN that I would like to install so
they're available, too. That's why I want to be sure that I understand just
what to do with each one.
