I am having significant difficulty getting through the tutorial on lyx. Specifically through portion 2.1.1 (My first lyx document.) Following the tutorial instructions:
File->New Type: This is my first lyx document. File->Save As View->DVI I get this output: ampad:~/lyx.tutorial$ Converting from latex to DVI Running sh: first.tex: not found Executing command: xdvi -paper us 'first.dvi' file:first.dvi: No such file or directory And there are no additional files in the directory to see if lyx even attempted the conversion. If I try to expert to latex, I get: moving /tmp/lyx_tmpdir20005evaOeN/lyx_tmpbuf20005hvaOeN/first.tex to /export/home/vkyle/lyx.tutorial/first.tex And if I try to create a dvi from that file I get: prompt> texi2dvi first.tex first.tex:3: Misplaced {. first.tex:3: Misplaced }. first.tex:4: Misplaced {. first.tex:4: Misplaced }. first.tex:5: Misplaced {. first.tex:5: Misplaced }. first.tex:6: Misplaced {. first.tex:6: Misplaced }. first.tex:11: Misplaced {. first.tex:11: Misplaced }. first.tex:11: Misplaced {. first.tex:11: Misplaced {. first.tex:11: Misplaced }. first.tex:14: Misplaced {. first.tex:14: Misplaced }. first.tex:16: Misplaced {. first.tex:16: Misplaced }. makeinfo: Removing macro output file `/tmp/txi2d.20024/first.texi' due to errors; use --force to preserve. This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (Web2C 7.3.1) (/tmp/txi2d.20024/first.texi I know that the tutorial says that it assumes that there is a proper installation that has been completed of both latex and lyx. This is a big assumption on my part. However, if I try to convert a sample Tetex document to a dvi, I have no problems. I have no idea of where to continue at this point. Has someone else experienced these problems, or can point me to some specific documentation that I might have missed? I appreciate any help. As far as specifics, I am running: Solaris 2.8 TeTex lyx-1.1.6fix3 teTex-1.0.7 teTeX-texmfsrc-1.0.1 texinfo-4.0 bxforms-089 Thanks in advance, Vern
