I agree with the dislike of sans-serif headings. However, Koma-script allows
the setting of "normal" headings as an option.
The appended LyX layouts do this for articles, it is surely possible to
adapt this also for book-style. (There might be the need to uncomment some
commands that are specific to my setup here - it should work if you include the
gm-extensions as well)
