It seems that there are many variables like \parskip, which are good to know about for adjustments like the original subject of this thread. Can you suggest a way to learn about some of these variables, as well as things like \AtBeginDocument{}? I don't know if a list of such names exists, with brief descriptions---that'd be really great. But in lieu of a list, could you suggest a pattern to grep for, and over what files in what directories, something like that? It wouldn't have descriptions, but at least might give users like me some clues where to poke into for more info. Thanks again for all your help. Jim
