Interesting, I'll try the Optional Sources thing. It was turned off on my Mint 22 system, and that didn't prevent me from compiling LyX from source on that.
I've also tried to install the .deb packages, but hit a Qt plugin bug when trying to run LyX, even though I installed the lyx-common dependencies as well. I'll keep digging.
