What would be recommended procedure to just bump lightly some simple
package for Debian?

I want to delve into Debian packaging, but can't find some simple docs how to
rebuild some package for stable by either changing configure options and
bumping its version a bit...backporting something like LyX, I understand,
requires more skills.

OK, I'll probably wait for an official backport. It's not such a rush.
