Hello Ricardo, In the lower part of the document settings window there is a "Save as > default" button. Any change you made to the Document → Settings will be set > as default for any new document. >
That fixed the problem. I can see that clicking on that "Save Document as Default" button writes a file to ~/.lyx/templates/defaults.lyx and that file includes the line "\language british". Thanks, Paul
