This is a "security" feature of the Mac. See

        https://developer.apple.com/developer-id/

I usually enter from a terminal window (iTerm2)

        sudo spctl --master-disable

and then you still get a warning when you open an app for the first
time but can go ahead at your discretion.

Go into System Preferences and click on the "Security & Privacy" icon.
In the bottom half of the window you should see an option for allowing
LyX to install once you click on the lock at the bottom of the screen
and enter your password.

Dear JMarc. Thanks very much for your quick reply! I apologize
for my carelessness. I wrote Microsoft by mistake. I meant

Hi. My MacOS won’t let me open my lyx files because Microsoft

    Dear Herbert,

We need more details to be able to help you.

I suspect that you would have more useful help if you asked on
the [email protected] list. You could maybe include
screenshots and details on your settings, because at this point I
do not know why Microsoft would have anything to say about
    programs running on your mac.

And describe precisely what you do.

    Regards,
    JMarc
