I seem to remember that I looked into this as well some time ago and
thought about filing an enhancement request. Feel free to do so.
In the meanwhile you would try the dashrule package
(https://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/dashrule) ans use
ERTs.
