I don't think AMS equation environments take optional arguments (at
least I see no indication of it in the manual for the package), and in
any case I see no way to insert an optional argument in LyX. You might
be able to get by using a box. Is the attached what you want?
Thanks. I don't think it is strictly speaking an environment. And it
does take an optional argument. Attached is a comparison of what I want
and your boxed suggestion. The latter has spacing and alignment issues.
