I do a 'M_c t', type '\circumflex a' and get an error from LaTeX: 'Undefined control sequence. \circumflex o' When I 'C_m' into Math mode, and type '\hat a', everything works find; LyX even recognizes what I'm trying to do and display the (emphasized) a with a hat. (Trying '\hat a' instead of circumlex, above, fails, LaTeX thinking I forgot to put myself in math mode.) So how do I get normal text accents (and/or normal TeX macros?) to work? I'm using the the sequentially-numbered AMS article format. Thanks. -Todd L. Miller
