Interesting question (miktech vs. texlive). Additional consideration:
* I have installed Inkscape and try to use this drawing tool instead of Visio
* My current Inkscape installation allows me to insert TeX math and have it 
converted to a curve/object in Inkscape -- which I can then scale
* In an *ideal* world, I'd like to keep the TeX math in the Inkscape drawing in 
a form that makes LyX scale the text so that it fits with the body text size of 
the document...

OK -- I haven't looked into LyX' recent Inkscape support, and don't know 
whether such scaling is supported -- and whether Inkscape support works for 
both Miktech and TeXLive...
