These are the results of image conversions, which LyX saves so it doesn't have to do the conversion the next time you open the same file. There is, at the moment, no mechanism in LyX itself to manage the size of this directory, etc. But you can just erase all the files periodically if you wish to clean it up. They'll be re-generated the next time they are needed. Richard
