PS: I do have installed lyx PPA:

I managed to get LyX 2.2.3, but not from Liv's PPA (which is where I
usually obtain it). There's another PPA (deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/jonathonf/texlive/ubuntu xenial main) that I
use for TeXLive updates, and he has the current version of LyX there.
That said, I'm hoping that Liv will continue to update his site.
