Thank you so much, Paul. That was so helpful.
If you don't mind me asking an elementary question -- how does one make the 'language' usage consistent throughout a file? We're one of the few serious publishing houses (doing 12-16 books a year) that uses Lyx for all its typesetting. Based in Goa, India. Would really appreciate any help or pointers from anyone on how to make our books more neat looking, specially with attractive chapter pages.

Thanks, Frederick

Frederick,

(Please bottom-post when using the lists.) I don't use multiple languages myself, so I can only speculate. The first thing I would try would be to select all the text (ctrl-A with the CUI key bindings) and then click the text style tool bar button and change the "Language:" field to either the language I wanted or "Reset".

Cheers,
Paul

    Dear all:

I seem to be having a problem in generating a PDF of the table
attached, and it throws up repeated error messages saying:

    QUOTE
*Paragraph ended before \foreignlanguage was completed*
    *Missing { inserted*
    *
    *

*I suspect you've forgotten a `}', causing me to apply this*

*control sequence to too much text. How can we recover?*

*My plan is to forget the whole thing and hope for the best.*

    UNQUOTE

Could you please tell me what could be the matter?

    Many thanks, FN

You seem to have a mix of "English" and "English (UK)" (or
"British") in the tables, and switching to British triggers the
error message. The version I've attached, in which I switched it
all to "English (UK)" (which matches the document language
setting), compiles for me. I don't know why the language switching
runs afoul of paragraph breaks inside table cells.

    HTH,
    Paul
