Yes, support for retina display on Mac and hi-DPI in general is on the way and will be possible in LyX 2.2.0. There are some issues and it's not sure when it will be finished though. But LyX 2.1.x on retina display is usable also. To make a comparison of both versions possible I've made a side-by-side screen shot.
