Dear Lyx Developers

 I woul sugest a new editing environment for the Latex preamble
menu. Due to now it's quite inconvenient to edit the Latex
preamble, the predefined font is too small for bigger screen
resolutions and most of all the editing funktions are very poor.
 First I would sugest to invoke the ability to use a editor like
Nedtit, vi, ... for doing this job.
 And second I would be happy if I could have a user customizable
menu for \newcommand(s) I define in the Latex Preamble and in a
include file.
 May be I should better present the way Im using the preamble, may
be my opinions would be better to understand.
 I'm mostly using Lyx for editing big documents for education
purposes. First I started to use the Latex preamble to extend LyX
to my own benefits, but after a short time I started to use an
external include file because it's much better to handle than the
preamble box. So by and by my include file becomes bigger and
bigger.
Shorties like
\@ifundefined{engl}{
\newcommand{\engl}[1]{(engl.:\ \textit{#1})}
\DeclareRobustCommand{\programm}[1] {\textsl{#1}}
\newcommand{\NW} {\programm{NetWare}~}
make editing much more comfortable.
For this items it would be great to have a new menu folder where I
can bind them to a key- shortcut, to automate the inserting and
making it a ERT in my Document.

I believe that most people who use LyX for a longer period of time
wil do this quite the way I do. But for new LyX users it would be a
great benefit to have a popup box where they can define such
\newcommand(s) which after this will be placed in the preamble
automaticaly and then could be pasted in by using a user defined
shortcut. (See attached PNG file). The ability of definig auto
expanded abrevations in an office application like SOffice or
WordPerfect are quite the same I would suggest. For the Programmers
this would be (easy?) to do and could be a starting point for more
functions up to edit layout files from within LyX. (By the way does
anyone now Scientific Workplace. Its a LaTeX based office
application for Windows and the last time i've been working with it
-some years ago- I saw this the first time.)

May be someone will discuss this sugestion,
I would prefer german :-))
