Sigh.... After a few days I decided to try to troubleshoot it on my own,
and started with LyX's built in -dbg command. To my surprise, LyX came up
without an error. So I repeated it without the -dbg, and it still works.
Perhaps a nightly cron job fixed something between then and now? I hate
computers.
