I had the same problem as described by Marc below.

Assuming that this problem has not been fixed in versions of LyX later
than 1.1.2, I'd like to suggest the following:
Add an option to the dialog box for inserting BiBTeX-citations that
allows the user to mark it as of the type: "nocite"

I also tried the suggested solution of putting a '%' in TeX-mode just in
front of a normal citation, but that didn't produce anything either.

If anyone knows of a different workaround to this problem, I'd be
grateful.
