If you are running Redhat 6.0, you should upgrade to the latest RPM (3.0.2)
from ftp.rpm.org and then upgrade to the latest tetex-1.0 RPM. The tetex
RPM that shipped with RH 6.0 had hyphenation problems like you describe.
