That's why it's only a beta distribution. The production version will
be able to handle an continuous unattended crash-restart-crash loop.

It seems to me LyX development is wave-like. Not enough data to tell
whether the wave is non-linear in nature though.
Ok, granted I haven't done "real" math in a long time, but isn't a
"linear wave" what causes surfers to pack it in for the day? (When I
was an amateur radio operator, we sort of relied on radio waves being
nonlinear.)
