No I don't use math macros, only lots of displayed equations. I really
can't understand why they affect so heavily qtwin but not qtx11 (same
machine, same LyX sources).

Math macros seem aggravating the situation. I tried the file attached
to bug 2452 and it took 2 minutes reaching the end of the document pressing
page down when using qtwin, 40 seconds when using qtx11 (scrolling slows
down progressively when approaching the end of the document), whereas
3-4 seconds sufficed when instant preview was on with both qtwin and qtx11
(after all equations were rendered).
