I don't think it will stabilize a lot faster. Don't underestimate the 
number of undetected bugs that are currently in 1.5. They will show up 
with the first prerelease.

I don't agree. It was agreed that the big change in 1.5 should be unciode, 
and I still don't think that we should change that, since unicode is a 
prerequisite for a lot of other stuff.
