This means that the MiKTeX registry key is missing. Did you install MiKTeX using the standard installer? You can of course locate it manually.
I think (I am not quite sure) that I installed miktex separately, using the standard installer. The installer recognizes miktex after I gave it the path. It might be helpful to say "enter the path to latex.exe" though, since I provided c:\texmf first. Bo
