OK, point taken, but this is all hypothetical though...

I really can't see any reason why a distribution would refuse the additional effort of bundling Qt if they are willing to bundle LyX.

All non-willing distributions can stay with LyX-1.4.x the same way Win95 users won't have LyX > 1.3.
