OK, let's ask differently: when is Wide() true? In a collapsable inset
which is alone on its line? Isn't it possible to have a live test
equivalent to Wide()?

I tested the patch, and it seems to work very well. I am OK with
putting this in 1.4.

Also, I notice that there is a rather large right margin in the LyX
window. Is there a reason for that?

Finally, when typing random text in a footnote, everytime the text
gets near the right margin, the all the lines of the footnote move
right and left. Is that the effect that you described, Bennett?
