Hi I'm an italian user of lyx. Sorry for my english. I find a possible bug in lyx 1.4.1. I use debian etch (testing). This error appear in italian version of lyx, but I translate the words for you. When I set "italian" in document-->settings-->language, the counter of Chapter, section, subsection and so on... disappear. For example
Chapter 1 "title" 1.1 "Section title" 1.1.1 "Subsection title" became Chapter "title" . "section title" "It's no sense! "subsection title" Obviously all this in italian, Chapter = Titolo Section = sezione Subsection = sottosezione but when I select DVI from view menu, the dvi file is right and the counter appeare. So, to find where the problem is, I start lyx from gnome-terminal. When I select "sezione" (italian word for section) in terminal I see "Counter sezione does not exist." Then I select sottosezione (italian word for subsection) in termina I see We failed to find the layout 'Sezione' in the layout list. You MUST investigate! Standard Itemize Enumerate Description List Part Section Subsection Subsubsection Paragraph Subparagraph Part* Section* Subsection* Subsubsection* Paragraph* Subparagraph* Title Author Date Abstract Bibliography LyX-Code Address Right Address Quotation Quote Verse Caption Counter sottosezione does not exist. So I think that it's a italian localization problem. In fact I resolve partially this problem in a brute force way. I have done # chmod 000 /usr/share/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES/lyx.mo In this way Lyx dosn't read the italian localization file and all works. The gui is in english :-( but if I select italian in language settings, aspell works fine, thesaurus works fine, and the final dvi (or pdf...) file is right. I hope I'm useful for your work.
