Then presumably building lyx with --with-version-suffix using scons will produce
a non-localizable lyx because these .mo files won't be found by libgettext.

point? They can't *both* be working...
I get your point but I am almost sure that they both work! I guess
package.C tells lyx how the locales are named.
At least, I understand that Jean-Marc passes some magic to the gettext code to
tell it where to find these .mo files...
Isn't this define in package.C?
