Georg: "This has nothing to do with the installer, it is IIRC
bug 2016. This should not matter anymore, since LyX will use
the viewers that are associated to the format in windows. Does
that work for you?"

SH: I use Acrobat6 (not Reader) as my default because it does
a lot of .ps conversions for readability. I can use acrord32
which comes with Acrobat Reader7 for my viewer with no problems.
Even though the path has two spaces, Program Files, Acrobat 7.
But this failed with Foxit Reader.exe as mentioned above. So
I renamed Foxit Reader.exe to foxit.exe. I substituted foxit.exe
for acrord32 (acrobat.exe is the default) and LyX reported it
couldn't find foxit.exe. I also tried just foxit (without .exe).
It used to work either way. I also tried Reconfiguring.
As reported C:\Foxit\foxit.exe , the absolute path works but
not just foxit(.exe). There seems to be something inconsistent
between how acrord32 and foxit are recognized.
The ability to adjust from the default Windows apps might be
useful in non-admin installs which use IrfanView, GS8.14 and
if you define a new format, associating a new viewer for it?
I didn't see how to adequately answer your question,
"This should not matter anymore, since LyX will use the
viewers that are associated to the format in windows. Does
that work for you?"
since "auto" works but it is the manual part which is
reported or behaves, oddly. It doesn't seem like your
statement is intended to mean that manual changes are
no longer going to work in the future, since acrord32
does. Maybe it has to do with the file associations?
Joost, I saw your post about adding a LyX icon to the desktop.
Good,
