The improvement comes, of course, from the switch to Qt4. Note, however, that
your hard work to get LyX working on Win98 would need a little tweaking because
the changes we made to Boost.Filesystem haven't been propogated formward into
the version of Boost.Filesystem used by LyX 1.5.
Could you elaborate? There are lyx specific changes in 1.4 version of
Boost.Filesystem?
