Hi, Just helped another guy to install lyx/win on his windows machine, again frustrated. Briefly,
1. download everything, install, until we are told that miktex can not be installed without adminstrative priveledge. 2. log out/in as administrator, install, lyx/configure fails to start. 3. check... msys/.../bin is not in the path. add that to the path. 4. lyx refuses to start, run sh configure from command line 5. try tutorial, can not view pdf -------- no viewer. 6. add acrord32.exe, apply, fail --- acrobat reader not in path, add acrobat reader to path 7. no viewerer, check preference, the setting is gone (???), reset, save, acrobat reader starts 8. log out/in as usual user, need to reconfigure, set acrord32.exe again to three places... 9, miktex can not get packages because it can not write to textmf\config\pmp.ini (?), can not create directory under cL\texmf ... 9. Tried everything, including changing the owner ot \texmf to local user, no luck. 10. log out/in to adminstrator, decided to work in this account 11. take a while to add thesis template (cls) and layout (.layout) to their supposed places, texhash, reconfigure .... 12. try to import his tex file, can not import. clean his tex file, can not import, shorten it, lyx can not import. 13. go to tex2lyx, try from command line, .tex is converted to .lyx correctly. (?) 14. open .lyx file, pdflatex runs, acrobat reader is minimized, click it, see the output. You can see why I was not particularly happy when things finally worked. Bo
