Dear developers,
I am new to LyX (I am using LyX 1.4.1 for Windows), and think this is a
great
project. However, I have a few suggestions for making LyX more user
friendly:
1. In the Math Panel, under the Symbols list: Frame Decorations, I miss the
\overset and \underset commands.
2. Include the different parts of the Math Panel (10 buttons and the two
scroll down lists for Symbols and Functions) in the toolbars, or at least
make
it possible for the user to choose to include them in the tool bars.
3. In Document->Settings->Math Options, include a check box for choosing
automatic numbering of equations, with options for either sequentially
numbering for the entire document or with the numbering restarting for each
new chapter. The latter e.g. by using the package numinsec (??).
4. To make it easier to use the Fancy Headers and Footers, in Document-
Settings...->Page Layout->Page style, when one chooses "fancy" in the the
Page style drop-down list, make it possible to use the different
settings/options of the Fancy Headers and Footers package without having to
write the commands directly into the LaTeX preamble box, by including boxes,
drop-down lists, check boxes, etc, for settings of head, foot, renewcommand,
etc. This should possibly be used also for the other choices in the Page
style
drop-down list.
5. Make it easier to use "dropped capitals" by making it possible to choose
this from some menu (insert?), by for example first marking the letter one
wants to make a "dropped capital", and then choosing the settings from a
menu,
as one does in MS Word. Or by placing the cursor where one wants to
use "dropped capitals", and then choosing the settings from a menu.
Some new functions I would like (which to my knowledge is not available):
1. In Document->Settings, add the possibility choose to use the endfloat
package by marking a check box, and make it possibly to use the
options/settings of the endfloat package by using boxes, drop-down lists,
chck
boxes, etc.
The endfloat packag " put all figures on pages by themselves at the end
of an article in a section named Figures. Likewise for tables. Markers,
like [Figure 3 about here] appear in the text (by default) near where the
figure (or table) would normally have occurred. This is usually required
when
preparing submissions to journals."

2. Make it possible to import and export RTF (Rich Text Format) files.
Is there any possibilities that any of these suggestions may be included in
some future version, maybe in LyX 1.4.2 or LyX 1.5.0?
Best regards,
Andreas Karlsson
